Tucson Police respond to approximately 1,000 911 calls per day. Many of these calls are unknown trouble or 911 hang-up calls.
At 1:18am on December 1, 2009, officers from Operations Division West responded to the 200 block of E. Elm St., regarding a report of a
911 hang-up from the residence. Officer Lucas Gossett a 3-YEAR VETERAN and Officer Jacy Palic a 1-YEAR VETERAN of the Tucson Police Department
responded to the call not knowing what trouble they were about to encounter at the home. Upon arrival, officers found that the front door of
the residence displayed signs of forced entry. Officers were able to see inside and immediately observed an armed suspect.
They identified themselves as police officers and gave him commands to drop the weapon. Two armed gunmen immediately began firing at the officers
with an ASSAULT RIFLE and a HANDGUN. …more

The third annual Cops and Rodders car, truck and motorcycle show will be held Saturday, October 31, 2009, from 8 AM to 4 PM at Hi-Corbett Field in Reid Park. Tucson, AZ; The Tucson Police Foundation (TPF) will present a check to the Tucson Police Department in the amount of $5966.19 for the purchase of five TASERs. This donation is part of the TPF Capital Equipment Campaign which has the goal of purchasing life saving equipment for TPD officers, as well as other capital equipment needs that will go directly to the officer that works in our community.
With this donation, there will be five more officers equipped with TASERs that did not previously carry this equipment on a daily basis.
This presentation will take place at the Tucson Police Department Headquarters, located at 270 S. Stone Avenue on Monday, September 14th at 10:30am.
The Tucson Police Foundation founded in 2003, is an independent, non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to fostering public safety through community partnerships to support the Tucson Police Department. The Foundation has provided for life saving equipment, training, and community based safety programs for the benefit of Tucson.
The Target Corporation, in partnership with the Tucson Police Foundation, has stepped up to assist the officers of the Tucson Police Department with a donation of 144 cases of water. The Foundation has also received 10 cases of water donated by Buffalo Wild Wings (Irvington location), and a $50 gift card toward the purchase of 10 cases of water from COSTCO Wholesale of Tucson. …full story & photos
On Tuesday, June 2, hundreds of local police officers will descend on local bank branches. But not for the reason you think. This time, the bank is helping them. For the second year in a row, the Tucson Police Foundation has joined forces with M&I Bank to recognize and thank law enforcement in the greater Tucson area. The date of this year's acknowledgment was chosen to honor the anniversary of Tucson police officer Erik Hite, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on that date last year. …full details

OFFICER ALLEN D. JOHNSONThe Tucson Police Foundation was saddened to learn of the death of Officer Allen D. Johnson on March 10, 2009. Officer Johnson lost his life in an off-duty bicycle accident on the Tucson eastside.
The Foundation exists to support the Tucson Police Department, and as such, will accept donations to a memorial fund for Officer Johnson. TPOA has generously donated $1,000 to assist in the cost of sending two TPD officers to escort the casket to Ohio on Saturday. The Tucson Police Foundation would like to match that total of $1,000. This will cover the airfare, hotel and meals for the two officers. Checks can be made out to the Tucson Police Foundation, with a notation of Johnson Memorial. Please drop them off at any Tucson Police Department substation or the Tucson Old Pueblo Credit Unions located at 2500 E. 22nd Street, 177 N. Church Avenue, and 9725 E. Broadway Blvd. All of the money collected will be given to the family of Officer Allen D. Johnson, or be used to send the TPD officers to escort the casket of their fallen comrade.
The Tucson Police Foundation presented a check for $35,000 today to Tucson Police Department Chief of Police Kermit Miller to send Hite family members and a contingent from TPD to the National Peace Officers Memorial Week in Washington D.C. The activities will take place from May 11–15. …more

Tucson Police Officer Erik Hite was ambushed on June 1, suffering fatal injuries. He is survived by his wife, two children, and many family members. The TPOA will continue to do everything they can to make this difficult time as comfortable as possible for the family.
